  • Read the setup process of the HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer, purchase it from the store or order online. Begin the setup process by unboxing it. The unboxing procedure might vary by country/region, so read the instruction carefully. Take the printer out from the box. Separate all tape and packing materials outside the printer.
  • Remove the sticker on the printer’s control panel and the scanner lid. Raise the scanner lid, separate the packing material, and close the lid. Pull the input tray towards you to open it, lift the output tray, and then remove the packing material. Push the input tray front until it snaps into place, and then lower the output tray.
  • After unpacking it, plug the power cord to the rear of the printer, and the other end of the power string into an electrical outlet. Turn on the printer, and set your preference on the control panel. To place your favorite on the control panel, select your preferred language, country/region, and then press Yes to confirm your choice.
  • If prompted, choose the date and time, and press Yes to confirm your choice. Now install the ink cartridge. Raise the cartridge access door. Stay until the cartridge is idle and silent before you proceed.
  • Separate the packing material from the carriage, remove the ink cartridge from its package, and then pull the orange tab at the rear.
  • Hold the pack by its sides, and then twist the protective orange cap counter-clockwise to snap it off the ink cartridge. Rotate the ink cartridge so that the contacts face down, and then adjust the label color such that it matches the dot on the cartridge.
  • Place the cartridge into its slot and gently press it until it snaps into place, repeat the same procedure for the other one as well. Close the ink cartridge access door. Now load the paper into the tray, raise the output tray, then pull the input tray toward you to open it. Fill a stack of plain paper into the input tray, push the stack until it stops.
  • After loading the paper, the printer’s control panel displays a message to align the printer. Touch OK. Lift the scanner lid, keep the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass, set it according to the engraved guides around the glass, close the scanner lid, and touch Scan.
