Guidelines to Install OpenVPN on the Windows Computer

  • To install OpenVPN on your Windows 10 computer, download it from the manufacturer’s site. Once the download process is complete, extract the files and save it on your desktop. Right-click the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar and click Network Settings.
  • Go to the General tab, select Unblock and click OK. Choose the VPN tab and select the + icon to add a VPN. From the list displayed, select the OpenVPN and start the installer. Select Yes to start the installation. Now, run the OpenVPN client as Administrator.
  • Agree to the Terms and Conditions of the OpenVPN. Download any one of the VPNBook certificate bundles. Extract the files and move them to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config. Click the OpenVPN client icon, choose the profiles and select Connect. Key in the username and password in the respective fields.
  • Click OK and you are connected to the VPN server. If you do not have an account, go to http://vpnbook.com/freevpn and get a username & password. Now OpenVPN client is installed successfully on your Windows computer.
  • To check whether your IP Address is modified, launch a web browser like Google Chrome and navigate to the URL bar. Type my IP and click the Enter button. You will see a static IP Address displayed on top. You can also use other VPN clients like Express VPN and IP Vanish to set a virtual IP address. To disconnect OpenVPN from your Windows computer, right-click on the OpenVPN icon. Go to the connected server and click Disconnect.
  • You can save the account details on your Windows 10 computer. Go to the OpenVPN icon on the taskbar and click the desired server. Select Edit Config and you will see the client details. Near auth-user-pass-parameter, type pass.txt and save it.
  • Open Notepad on your computer, enter the username in the first line and type password in the second line. Save the file on your desktop. Now, open the OpenVPN installation folder and copy the files in the config folder. Now, it will connect to the VPN without prompting you to enter the credentials.
