  1. Turn off your printer and discard the power cord.
  2. Take out the ink cartridges from the printer.
  3. There are many ink cartridges like tri-color, black, yellow, cyan, and magenta. If you are not aware of how to remove the ink cartridges, refer to the manual.
  4. Have a disposable towel, cloth, or paper and place the removed ink cartridge on it.
  5. Wipe with same using a different cloth.
  6. Clean the copper nozzle plate with a wet cotton swab.
  7. Clean the remaining moisture. Check the copper nozzle plate and clean the empty contacts with dry cotton.
  8. Replace the ink cartridges. Read the instructions in the manual to do the same.

  • HP printers always suggest the usage of genuine HP ink for better print quality. First, check the ink levels of all cartridges. If you find any empty or low ink cartridges, replace it. There are two ways of cleaning the ink cartridges, Automatic and Manual Cleaning. For automatic cleaning, if your printer is connected to the computer, follow these steps.
  • Go to the Windows or Start icon at the bottom of the screen. Click All Programs HP and then select HP solution center. The application will open. Click the Settings option from the HP solution center. From the Print Settings area, Select Printer Toolbox. Click on the option Clean the Print Cartridges in the Device Services tab. Press the Select Clean option to start the cleaning process. A test page will be printed if the cleaning process is complete.
  • For manual cleaning, switch On the printer and remove the ink cartridges once they move to the center.
  • Boil the water using a bowl. Take the bowl and dip the half-emptied side of the cartridge in it. Wait for a while until it loosens any solid ink. Take the ink cartridges out. Place it aside and let it dry. Dip the cotton swab in ammonia solution. Clean the bottom and back of the ink cartridge with the dipped cotton swab. The ammonia solvent helps to dissolve ink that clogs in the inkjet.
  • Clean the nozzles inside the printer with a cotton swab dipped in an ammonia solution. It is done to clean any dry ink that might have clogged. Check whether the portion you have cleaned is dry, and put the cartridges back inside. Print a test page.
