If you’re shifting to a new city temporarily, you can ask USPS to either forward your mails to the new address or hold the mails at your current local post office.

To change your address or update your new address, you have to fill out an “official USPS change of address form.” After changing your address successfully, the USPS will forward your mail for 15 days to one year.

How Long Does USPS Forward Mail After A Change Of Address

CHANGING THE ADDRESS

  • Go to the official USPS Change-of-Address page.
  • Firstly, select Individual, Family, or Business as per your preferences under the “Step 1: Who is Moving”section.
  • Verify the details and go to the next step.
  • Secondly, you will be asked to enter the contact information based on your selection in step 1.
  • For Individual or Family: Type your first name, middle name or initial, last name, and email address in the given fields. Choose the Suffix type drop-down menu. Also, enter your phone name and select your phone type from the drop-down menu.
  • For Business: Type your business name, email address, and phone number in the given fields. Also, select the phone type from the drop-down menu given.
  • Select the type of move, i.e., Permanent or Temporary.
  • Select the Mail Forwarding Date from the calendar.
  • Type your old address followed by the new address in the given fields.
  • After entering the details in the given fields, click the Next button.
  • Follow the rest of the instructions to complete the payment process.
