A chance for a minor error to occur is high while performing the print or scan operation if the printer settings are not configured correctly. The Canon printer error E17 is one such error that is encountered by some users when performing the print operation.

Why Am I Receiving Error Code E17 On Canon Printer?

“Front tray or front feed tray is closed.”

Basically, when performing the print operation, your printer’s front tray and front feed bracket should be opened. If the tray or bracket is closed or not opened properly, then the error E17 is displayed on your printer screen, and the orange light will start to blink on your printer’s control panel.

The orange LED will blink three times in a row.

Resolving the Error Code E17

Opening the front tray

The possibility for this error to occur is high when your printer’s front tray is closed. So, as the first step of troubleshooting, check whether or not your printer’s front tray is opened. If not, open it properly, and then perform the print operation.

Opening the front feed tray

If you’re printing a document from the front tray of your printer, then the printer’s front feed tray should also be opened. Check whether or not the front feed tray of your printer is opened. If the feed tray is closed, then open it, and resume the print operation by pressing the Resume or Cancel button on your printer’s control panel.

Removing the jammed paper

Sometimes, a paper jam can also cause the error code E17.

  • Check if any paper is jammed inside your Canon printer.
  • If yes, remove it.
  • Similarly, look for the jammed paper in the front tray and front feed tray of your printer.
  • If you find any, remove them and then perform the print operation.
