Day 2 at the U.S. Open was filled with activity, as the GOLF crew explored Los Angeles Country Club’s numerous quirks — half-par holes, the former Playboy Mansion’s zoo — and heard from the game’s top players, like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau.

As the reigning PGA champion, Koepka is feeling understandably confident, and stressed the fact that the players are here to win a major championship, not to worry about the course itself.

And speaking of Koepka, though he’s not the odds-on favorite this week, he’s former NFL star Reggie Bush’s pick to win.

“He’s kind of on fire right now,” Bush told GOLF’s Dylan Dethier.

At player press conferences on Tuesday, the PGA Tour’s merger with the Saudi PIF was still at top of mind, but many players still feel like there’s a lot of unknowns.

“I know as much if not less than you,” Max Homa said. “It’s actually nice to be as confused as I am here because I’m not really thinking about it anymore, I’m just ready to go play golf.”

As if on cue, another Tour bombshell dropped on Tuesday night, with the news of Jay Monahan’s “medical situation.” Though we don’t have additional details to report at the moment, the PGA Tour has said that Monahan will step aside for the time being and Ron Price, Chief Operating Officer, and Tyler Dennis, Executive Vice President & President, PGA Tour, will lead the day-to-day operations during Monahan’s recovery.

Whew. That’s a lot to take in for a Tuesday. You can catch a recap of the the GOLF crew’s highlights from the day at LACC in the video above. And make sure to tune in every day this week for more exclusive content from the 2023 U.S. Open.
